Toilet Problems and Fingernail Biting

Recently I started working with a family with 3 children, all having different little problems which their Mom wanted to be addressed with EFT. The sessions with two of them have been very short and successful. The third one with the oldest boy is coming up soon.

Working with EFT and children in my experience is always fast, funny and successful. You have to keep it short, because their attention span is short. As soon as we are done tapping I send them for a few runs out and around the office. That always helps to refresh them. During that time and the rest of the session I usually talk to the parent, discussing all kinds of practical changes, the need of daily tapping with the kids, how to address possible problems in the future, and things like that. That way I get a good impression about mom/dad and any possible problems that she/he is struggling with, which may affect the kid's behavior.

I am sending you this e-mail I received from the mother who came to my office with "Katie", her 4-year-old adopted Vietnamese girl. The girl refused to go to the toilet when needed. She would do what she had to do whenever, wherever especially when there were changes in her environment.

This act of wanting to be in control is similar to what I had written about some time ago in Amanda's story . Katie's session with me was short and sweet in that I just sat down with her on my office floor, tapping her little hand's Karate chop point while laughing and talking with her. I briefly mentioned that the bear she was holding didn't like to go to the toilet sometimes. We just talked and I tapped for 2 minutes maybe. That was all that was needed in her case.
Her Mom then came in with Katie's older brother, 9-year-old "Bill." Bill used to bite his nails down to the flesh, then would bite the skin off. He could hardly sit still at all, a very active ball player, smart, fast thinking and responding. We tapped on some anxiety, being bored, not being good at waiting and a few other typical boy things. After 10 minutes of that he clearly crashed and yawned big time, not being able to go on and focus on anything.

Here is Mom's e-mail:

"Hi Baerbel -
I wanted to let you know Katie is doing wonderful! We are tapping, she is making it to the toilet on time and we are all happy!

I have waited all week to let you know how things have progressed with "Bill." What an interesting time! First, I do need to let you know that on the car ride home I asked how he liked the session and he said, "awesome", which is very high praise from Bill!
Monday evening during the time we were doing some reading he started to bite again. We determined that it might be a feeling of boredom that prompted that, so we tapped. That seemed to help.

Throughout the week he has hardly bitten at all. The only time I noticed him biting was when he watching TV, and the time I mentioned above. This is a huge improvement - like going from a 10 to a 1. What is really fabulous and encouraging is that all week he has been involved in practicing for a little play at our Church, and this would be a very typical time for him to bite because of the performance anxiety (similar to a baseball game) as well as, a lot of waiting around for other kids to say their lines (boredom, habit) - and I did not notice him biting once! They had a performance today and he did beautifully with no biting!

I have a sense that he is less jittery on the inside, still plenty of motion and action externally, but underneath there is more of a calmness. ...I am just so thrilled with the results and well really quite awed - EFT is such a blessing!....You have a tremendous gift and I truly feel blessed to have connected with you. I am a Reiki Master/Teacher and am planning on opening a small practice out of our home - probably early next year. I am always thinking about other methods of healing I can learn and incorporate into my practice, and now I am really wondering if I should become a more serious student of EFT. "

There you have it; Another EFT practitioner on the way!
From my heart to all of you!
