Missing School Due to Migraine Headaches
Barbara L. Mallory, Ph.D.

Here is a case from my book, Feeling Free: A Guide to the Energetics of Self-Care, 2001, that you may offer for parents' info.  This wonderful child missed a great deal of school due to migraine headaches and related nausea.

As far as Mom could tell, "Dawn," age 8, suffered from severe migraine headaches since she was two years old.  They'd tried all appropriate medical treatments.  Most recently, a specialist doctor in the city told little Dawn, straight out, that she'd have to get used to living with the pain.  She could expect to suffer from migraines all her life.  A painful prophecy, indeed.

Dawn learned to do EFT in mere moments. If she does EFT at the first sign of a migraine, the pain doesn't materialize.  If migraine or tummy pain has already set in, Dawn can rely on EFT to reduce both the severity and duration.  If she doesn't feel up to doing the EFT routine, Mom can do the tapping on her or as surrogate for her, but mostly, Dawn handles it herself.  If the discomfort starts at night, when the pain used to be at its wakeful worst, she rubs in the Setup, taps once through the Sequence, and slips comfortably into sleep.

An alimentary allergy?  There may be an allergy-based factor in Dawn's migraine and stomach-ache experience which remains to be fully explored.  With a few moments of guidance, however, this alert little girl learned to listen to her body's response to foods, and to certain cleaning products as well.  She looks at or thinks about such an item, then simply rubs her hands together. Products that give her a "smooth" feeling between her hands don't seem to cause head or stomach pain.  She avoids products that give a "leathery" (thick, sticky) feeling between her hands to avoid the physical distress they are likely to cause.

Thanks for your inspiration and leadership in making school MUCH easier for kids!

Barbara
