Steady Progress with EFT Over Time
Betty Moore-Hafter
There are many wonderful
stories of one-session wonders with EFT, but I especially value the process of
working with EFT over time. "Kristen" has done about a dozen phone sessions with
me over the course of the last six months. As we've tapped for current issues
and, often, childhood core issues that arise, she has reported steady progress.
Kristen has kept a list of positive changes and it includes lessening of mood
swings, no more heartburn, stopping nail-biting, handling stress better, feeling
less exhausted, feeling more confident and feeling increasingly calmer and
happier. I'm very lucky in that Kristen taps on her own daily and I know that
her results have a lot to do with her persistent tapping.
In the most recent session,
the focus was on Kristen's desire to make a job change. Her current job is
stressful night work and she wants to move to a regular day schedule so she can
take classes, see people and be more involved. She admits that the night job has
been like a safety zone, an excuse for avoiding the richness of life that she
now desires.
Still she felt paralyzed by
fears of not feeling safe. As we tapped, what emerged was a feeling of "not good
enough." As she said, "I think the night job has been a smokescreen to cover for
me being deficient."
I asked her to really feel
this in her body -- it was in her stomach. "What does that feeling remind you
of?" She immediately knew. "My mother yelling at me, screaming, 'What's wrong
with you?' It makes me shrivel and feel sick to my stomach."
This had happened many times
during her childhood. So I had her tune into how this was held in her body and
we tapped as follows.
"Even though my mother is
yelling at me, screaming WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?, and I feel it in my stomach, I
deeply love and accept myself."
It took many rounds of
tapping, but with each round, the feeling in her stomach was less. Finally it
was gone and she said, "In my core I feel stronger!" We brainstormed some
healing messages and tapped them in. (We tapped through all the points,
repeating these healing messages.)
"I trust that it's going to
be okay."
"I can let go of the
safety line and still stay afloat."
"In my core I feel
stronger."
"I AM letting go [of the
old comfort zone] and it's not so bad... I can do this."
The next day, I received
this e-mail from Kristen:
"Hi, Betty!
Just wanted to let you know that I awoke happy and light as can be this
morning! After our session yesterday I thought I should nap as I usually
do but found myself wide awake instead! But I had the oddest sensation as
I lie on the bed. I actually felt like I was floating over the
mattress! It was very strange and after some thought I realized that it
wasn't exactly a floating feeling but more as if someone had lifted a huge
weight off my torso as I lie on the bed! I can't explain it only that I
guess a huge load was lifted from me yesterday from the tapping! Today I
feel the best I have felt in a very long time! I will keep happily tapping
along as the day progresses! Thank you for a great session! Signing
off, worry free, Kristen"
I have a feeling that a job
change will soon be added to Kristen's list of positive changes!
